CoreSite Data Centers has completed two major projects in the U.S. an extensive electrical upgrade at Los Angeles’ One Wilshire building and the launch of its AI-ready SV9 facility in Silicon Valley. Together, these moves highlight how CoreSite is modernizing legacy hubs while scaling new infrastructure for AI and hybrid cloud workloads.
One Wilshire® Upgrade in Los Angeles
One Wilshire, often called the most vital carrier hotel in the western U.S., serves as a major hub for trans-Pacific connectivity with over 300 networks passing through its halls. CoreSite, which operates its LA1 data center in the building, has completed extensive upgrades including:
- A new enterprise-class generator plant to enhance redundancy.
- Electrical and switchgear enhancements while maintaining 24×7 operations.
- Zero downtime for existing customers throughout the upgrade.
The company said the improvements were necessary to meet the rising demand for hybrid IT and interconnection requirements. With as much as one-third of all trans-Pacific traffic estimated to flow through One Wilshire, maintaining uptime was considered mission-critical.
New AI-Ready Campus in Silicon Valley
In parallel, CoreSite has completed its new SV9 data center in Santa Clara, adding 228,000 square feet of capacity to its Silicon Valley campus. The campus now spans 1.4 million square feet across nine facilities in Santa Clara, Milpitas and San Jose, serving technology firms, content delivery platforms, and enterprises with hybrid and multi-cloud needs.
Key highlights of SV9 include:
- Certified as part of the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Data Center program, designed for AI, ML and compute-intensive workloads.
- Direct interconnections to AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
- Advanced power and cooling infrastructure to support high-density deployments.
With SV9 online, CoreSite now operates 30 data centers across 11 U.S. markets, totaling about 4.5 million square feet. Its facilities are interconnected through high-count dark fiber and simplified via the company’s Open Cloud Exchange® (OCX) platform.
Asia Cloud Hub Takeaway
CoreSite’s dual push in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley reflects a wider industry trend: legacy carrier hotels and new AI-ready builds are both critical in meeting rising demand.
- In Asia-Pacific, players like Digital Realty are expanding into Indonesia with a new joint venture, while Equinix is adding capacity in Singapore (SG5) and Paris (PA10).
- In India, CtrlS recently launched its first Kolkata DC1 (16MW) as part of a ₹2,200 crore (~US$260M) campus plan.
- AirTrunk secured a S$2.25B green loan to finance its Singapore SGP2 hyperscale facility — the largest green financing for a data center in the region.
These expansions highlight how operators across the globe are racing to modernize infrastructure for AI, cloud, and interconnection at scale.
